I believe that the most beautiful way to photograph your baby is through simplicity. Those first few weeks are often a blur—filled with excitement, emotion, and wonder at the new life you've created. That's why lifestyle newborn sessions take place in your home, where the natural connection and emotions can shine. I'll capture the intimate moments and precious details of your new baby, along with the love and joy shared by the whole family.

NEWBORN SESSION TIPS

LET LIGHT IN

Let the natural light pour through the windows! I typically shoot a good portion of the session in the nursery, so please have the curtains wide open and the shades up.

Go ahead and turn off all the lights and lamps in these rooms as well. It might seem dark, but my camera can work magic with natural light that artificial lights would ruin later on!

OUTFITS

For my editing style, think light colors: whites, pastels, or earthy tones. If you're comfortable wearing a flowy dress (even in winter), bonus points to you because they photograph the best!

Have a solid outfit ready for your baby and perhaps a second one that shows a bit more personality. Be sure to have backups on hand for both you and your baby—unexpected blowouts or big spit-ups might happen!

PREP THE CRIB

I encourage either a white or neutral crib sheet, so if you don’t own one, perhaps pick up one beforehand! Crib sheets with too much color will reflect onto baby’s face, casting a colorful shadow that’s challenging to edit out later on.

Too much pattern on the crib sheet will also distract from your baby in the photos, so keep it pretty simple. You’ll thank me later for this tip!

GET EVERYONE FED & HAPPY

Start feeding your baby 20 minutes before my arrival, then change their diaper, and finally, put them in their outfit. Be prepared to do small bonus feedings if your baby gets fussy! If you have an older sibling, set them up with a snack and one of their favorite movies or activities before I arrive. This will keep them distracted at the beginning of the shoot, allowing us to focus on the baby and keep things relaxed.

After we get the necessary shots of the new bundle, we can welcome the older sibling(s) for their moments!
